    ESTATE FRESH!
1894 Dedication Ribbon Badge from Henry Baerer Ludwig Van Beethoved Statue in Prospect Park NYC!
I have been collecting/dealing in Antiques and Collectibles for well over 45 years. Most of the treasures that I acquire are direct from estates or houses. Over the time that I have been been doing this I have ended up setting aside items that were either of specific interest to me or that I felt were especially "unique and eclectic". This has ended up with my having a rather extensive "personal" collection. I am now at a point in my life that I have to limit this addiction and in fact actually downsize my "collection(s)!" I suggest that you consider adding me to your list of sellers that you follow as I will be offering many "decommissioned" treasures as well as the extensive new acquisitions that I continue to pursue in my semi-retirement!
He was one of my "heroes" in my youth. Unlike most of my generation, I also liked and listened to classical music, and I even played the violin! Ludwig Van Beethoven (1770-1827) was born in Bonn, Germany. Demonstrating early musical talent as a pianist he studied with a succession of instructors starting with his father, who was a singer in the electoral choir. Some of his other instructors included Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) and Franz Joseph Haydin (1732-1809) Making his public piano debut in 1800, his growing deafness curtailed future public performances. Beethoven's hearing disability did not undermine his prodigious talent as a composer, establishing him to be recognized as a genius in virtually all musical forms with his Fifth Symphony (1805-1807) and his Ninth Symphony (1817-1823) becoming becoming classical standards!
This rather rare ribbon badge is from the
October 20, 1894 dedication of German-American sculptor Henry Baerer (1837-1908) statue in Prospect Park Concert Grove, Brooklyn, New York. It is approximately 2¼" wide at the top banner x 5½" long. Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux in 1866, the original plan for Prospect Park designed this area of the park as a "concourse for Pedestrians" and "Music Stand." In 1870, they elaborated this to accommodate musical performances, noting that, "promenade concerts are common in many European pleasure grounds.
