Gallant garlands
Antique pendant with diamonds & pearl in platinum, around 1910
description
The history of styles and tastes is not a linear sequence - rather, different fashions have always existed at the same time, sometimes in addition to, sometimes sharply differentiated from one another. Early 20th For example, not only was Art Nouveau modern with its dynamic, curved lines. At the same time, wonderful pieces of jewelry were also created in the so-called. "Garland Style", the "garland style", a formal language that contrasts the Art Nouveau with a more classic, finer conception of style. References to the forms of Louis XVI and fine motifs from classical antiquity enlivened a neoclassicism that valued small, delicate laurel tendrils as well as meticulous festoons and decorations with tiny mille handles. The jewelery in this style was made by goldsmiths in Paris, London and Vienna in precious materials, richly set with diamonds, set in silver or platinum. The result was a crystalline, cool and particularly elegant look: These special jewels in white shine unearthly seductive, a little secluded from the world and therefore particularly luxurious. The pendant here is a fine example of this fashion. An arrangement of sparkling laurel tendrils set with diamonds and a large natural pearl is set in a round frame. The outer frame bends inwards at the top and here, with a sparkling old-cut diamond, holds the starting point for the two garlands and the pendularly attached pearl. Another old-cut diamond at the bottom of the outer frame emphasizes the central axis and gives the arrangement a direction. All parts of the pendant are covered with platinum on the front side, creating a triad of white, pearl, diamond and platinum. We were particularly impressed by this interplay, with its subtle gradation of colors and surfaces, which make the piece of jewelery so rich and interesting in detail. The fact that it still retains its lightness is the great quality of the design. A platinum loop turns the piece into a pendant. It was probably only later added to or renewed for the piece of jewelery. With the modern chain that the piece of jewelry can be worn carefree.

Hofer antique jewelry in Berlin
about us
Hofer antique jewelry
arose from the joy of beautiful things. It all started with my grandma, who was a lady who liked to adorn herself. She could tell something about each of her pieces of jewelery and when she opened her jewelery box, a world opened up: fond memories and touching stories connected with the pieces marked the highlights of a lived life. Based on these experiences, over the years a passion grew in me to deal with these small and always very personal objects.
