Antique Chinese Bronze Ji Halberd Scepter Weapon Head With Carved Jade Blade

For sale is this beautiful antique Chinese ceremonial decorative axe. This axe is beautifully crafted from bronze, with a jade (or similar stone) ornately carved as the “blade”. The stone wouldn’t have been very effective as a weapon or tool itself, suggesting this was made for some sort of ceremony or formal cultural decor. The bronze is heavily oxidized, with layers of corrosion, although the metal itself is relatively in tact (not too brittle to be displayed or held). The back of the axe forms a fish-tail like design with scaled engraved or cast into the surface, that could be used as a hook or as a blunt metal instrument. The top is rather spear like, though couldn’t be practically used as the axe is near under it. The face of the act is carved with a foo-like dragon head into the stone, and has a curved cutting edge. Provenance: This item was purchased from China by a European collector, sold to a German arms and armor collection, later purchased by a massive private antique arms and armor collection based in the USA (1980-90’s), sold upon the owners collection downsizing & retirement to me. I am unsure of its exact age, or origin within China. This would make a great display piece, decor piece, research piece, teaching tool, or gift! This is an incredible piece and would make a great addition to any collection! Don’t pass it up!
