    Notable Features:
This necklace was handmade in the Mid Century era. The necklace consists of peridot, quartz, and seed pearl beads. The inclusion of such different, lustrous stones in this necklace is an excellent example of the bold and creative styles of the Mid Century era, which saw jewelers create jewelry using uncommon and colorful stones, as well as incorporating new designs and re-purposing those from the past to craft entirely new pieces of jewelry.
The necklace features forty-nine seed pearl beads. Each bead is off-round and displays a stunning lustrous cream as light moves across the faces of the stones. After being drilled through the middle and polished, the beads were strung by hand on a wire and linked to each other with small golden hoop links. The warm hue of the gold enhances the beauty of the pearliest hues.
The necklace has a beautiful flower pendant made up of nine sets of nine white quartz beads on a circular 18k yellow gold wire. The pendant also has four faceted pear-cut peridots representing the leaves of the flower.
The necklace is completed with an 18k yellow gold heart-shaped lobster clasp. When worn, this necklace rests just on the collarbone on most people. A classic of the Mid Century era, this necklace would make a valuable addition to any antique jewelry collection. Don't miss your chance to preserve this piece of cultural history.

    The History
The Mid-Century era, 1935 to 1965, encompassed many new styles of art and architecture and this carried over to jewelry making. This exciting time for jewelry saw movements such as Hollywood Regency, Modernism, Brutalism, and the Atomic Age. Native American artisans were also making their mark in the jewelry industry. Artisans used many kinds of metals, gemstones, glass, and experimented with ceramic and wood as well. This era was filled with new and innovative designs, while also rejuvenating and reinventing older styles. The unique jewelry which emerged from this era is still very popular today.
Peridot, unlike many other stones, occurs only in one color. Its olive-green hue varies depending on the percentage of iron contained within. Peridot hues have been seen varying from yellow, olive, and brownish-green. Very rarely does peridot occur in a pure medium-dark green with no secondary yellow hue or brown mask.
Quartz is the second most abundant mineral found in the Earth’s crust. The name is derived from the German term “quarz” and originated from the Slavic word meaning hard. It is known to be one of the hardest minerals on earth which is why it has been historically utilized in making jewelry. Quartz gemstones are hard, durable and extremely attractive. The stones can come in a variety of colors and hues. Quartz is an inexpensive mineral, while some varieties can be extremely rare, most varieties and sizes are commonly available. It has been used for centuries in the creation of jewelry and other ornamental objects. Quartz is an extremely versatile material that can be cut and carved into many shapes and sizes which has made it an asset historical and antique jewelry. Today, quartz is one of the most important gemstones in the colored stone trade and in jewelry making.
Seed pearls occur naturally and are used most often as a decorative border, as tiny accents in small patterns, or in larger clusters woven together to make up an entire piece of jewelry. They are normally less than 2 mm in diameter. They were imported from India and China and carried a hefty price tag due to this. Seed Pearl jewelry was used often for special occasions such as weddings, Mary Todd Lincoln received a seed pearl parure for Lincoln's inauguration.
