    Description

Samothrace: A Guide to the Excavations and the Museum
, by Karl Lehmann. Locust Valley, New York: J. J. Augustin, Publisher, 1983. Softcover, 143 pages; approx. 8¼” x 5½”. Generously illustrated with photos, maps, diagrams, and more.
Samothrace is a Greek island in the northern Aegean Sea, not far from the edge of present-day Turkey (across the water, to the southeast). In ancient eras, it was occupied by the Persian empire, then the Greeks and the Romans. The ruins of the main city, now usually referred to as Palaeopolis (“old city”) have revealed great artifacts and history. Excavations continue.
This book is a detailed guide, clearly designed for two uses: to be carried and referred to while touring the site and museum; or, from the desk or armchair, to glean the fascinating descriptions and illustrations. This seller was especially interested in some of the information on early Greek language inscriptions found there.
    Book condition is “like new.”
    Careful wrapping and fast shipping.
