Description

"Truly the Land of Allurement — the Land Where Years Don't Count. Whether your years number two or ninety-two, you will never forget the magical charm of this place of beauty, fantasy, and peaceful charm."
— From a 1960s-era postcard for Storybook Gardens
This rare, souvenir plate is from Storybook Land, dating it to the late 1950s! Its colorful and whimsical illustrations tell the stories of Little Boy Blue, Hickory Dickory Dock, Jack And The Beanstalk, and Old Lady Who Lived In A Shoe! It is in excellent condition: the colors are vibrant, and the gold edging is strong and unbroken. Measuring 1" high x 7 1/16" diameter, it has both the original price sticker and (made in) Japan sticker on the back. It comes with a knotted, yellow string for hanging.
Storybook Gardens, originally named Storybook Land, opened in 1956 as one of the first tourist attractions in the Wisconsin Dells area. At its peak, there were up to 25 exhibits along with actors in costumes walking the Storybook Gardens grounds, which included dozens of flower beds, a well-trimmed lawn and four ponds, each named after one of creator Melvin Flath's four daughters! Sadly, Storybook Gardens closed its doors in 2010, thus ending that enchanted, magical place of wonderment.
I package carefully, and my home is smoke-free.
